Kindness is my business

I found myself in a meeting where one of the managers of the project I was working with said (which sounded like a demand), “You should not be kind or open hearted here. That is not the way to be with these people. I would take the business approach of just following the structure. That is the way you want to be.”

1st thing: Red flag alert. Obviously this person does not know me, my values and what I stand for. Or they just didn’t get the memo.
2nd thing: My business is about making a difference for everyone: first and foremost, the client. second of all, my team. This is what I value. This is what I am standing in my whole life. #Eternity
3rd thing: Call it what you want: soft, vulnerable (haven’t you heard? Vulnerability is where it’s at. It creates awesome results. I’m an artist for crying out loud. Try it today.) push over, whatever. Being kind makes a difference for me and people around me. Having an open heart where ever I go is not easy baby and it’s definitely not being a push over. Look here, I’m standing and I’m gonna keep on standing. I generate this on the daily–in circumstances of rudeness, ignorance, avoidance, disagreement, violence, and the list goes on, I live in NYC and I’m still going to be in ALOHA and ‘OFA. You may be afraid of having your heart broken, so you close it, protect it, defend it. There’s nothing to protect over here. Love is my infinite millions. It can’t be stopped. That is where my life lives.  Call it being a Hippie–if only you knew, this is as Gangstaaa as it gets. The Gangsta of Love.

I am very blessed to say that I am no longer working with this manager and the project. I am grateful for this. For this open space that I have now will be a clearing for what I want to work and spend my time and value: People who are committed to making a difference: through kindness, love, passion, determination, jokes, authenticity, vulnerability, joy, and community. This is what I am standing for.

And I aint gonna stop….

which has me share this great piece of news:

Speaking of getting what I asked for: People who are committed to making a difference through kindness, love, passion, determination, jokes, authenticity, vulnerability, joy, and community.

Confirmed: SOULJOURNEY TRUTH TOUR: Mahina Movement will be performing and doing a workshop in Dublin, Ireland at http://axis-ballymun.ie. I will also be painting a mural with the community representing the powerful legacy and future of Irish women. We will be in Dublin, Ireland from Sept. 1 – Sept. 5, 2012. See you there!

…and this is how I do business.

Dreams Fulfilled. Ask & you shall receive.

Photo by the dude in in the park we asked to take our picture so Will can be in it! Thank you!
From L to R: Carol, Nyaae, JL, Sisa, Moana, Espe, Sally y Imani. Center: Will

Like for reals, today was AWESOME! Actually this whole week was awesome. Actually this whole month was AWESOME!

I woke up at 4:30 am today for my 1st Photo Shoot of my brand new T-Shirt/fashion clothing company re:spect. Everything just fell into place, perfectly. Yes, there were minor breaks downs here and there but it never broke the flow. I learned so much today about doing fashion photo shoots, huge amounts, I can’t wait for the next one! However, what was so great about today was that I was 100 percent present to that the Universe loves me, the Universe loves us. One of the locations we had our Photo Shoot was under the bridge near Fair way and we saw that someone spray painted on one of the columns, “poem” in pink. Everyone kept on saying, “Did you write that? Did they know we were coming?” Yes, they did. Yes, they did. The Universe loves us. Another beautiful thing that happened today out of so many, was that no one lost anything or got anything stolen. We were in 5 different locations outside today. Everyone went home with what they brought with them. The Universe loves us.

I asked for a clear blue sky. Check. Got it.
I asked for amazing, beautiful, talented and fierce people. Check. Got it.
I asked for a Fabulous day of fun and joy. Check. Got it.
I asked for Love to give and to receive. Check. Got it. Love surrounds me constantly.

Thank you everyone for making my dream a reality. I can’t wait to see the final photos y video! Coming soon…Muchas gracias William Orellana, Sisa Bueno, Insytephotography Tweet Iveephotography, Esperanza Martell, Erika Nyaae, Jana Lynne Umipig, Carol Serrano, Sally Hyppolite, Dominque and thank you so mucho Gab*StarGabriella Callender for all your support y love! I know you performed AMAZING tonight!! I’m so sorry I missed it Sister! Dreams Fulfilled.

Do you want to be my Friend?

My homework this week from my financial coach, the amazing Jaime, is:
To make  friends with:
1) artists who are leaders
2) prosperous artists
3) social (justice) entrepreneurs

Do you want to be my friend? Hollllleeeerrrrz

I got it now. Even if I have not communicated it directly, is that my art is my leadership.
I am an Artist because I am a Leader and I choose to have my art make a difference for the world.
I really, really got it.
My art is my leadership.

What is your art?

Waking up to Thunder: Living on Purpose

Literally, I woke up to major thunder and lightening. It was amaaaaazing!
And in the poetic realm, I woke up this morning to my own thunder: my passion, my hunger, my gifts and my full appreciation for my life and my full blown love for my family, my friends, my community, my world, my universe. Malo ‘aupito.

I just discovered Robin Sharma on twitter. He is one of the peeps I have been listening to and reading in the past few days. Check him out. Here are some great quotes by him:

“The secret to genius is not genetics but daily practice married with relentless perseverance.”

“Great to have what you want. Awesome to want what you have.”

In the last video I have on the bottom of this post he asks 3 questions. Here are my answers  to his 3 questions:

1) What I want my life to stand for:
Love, Dreams Fulfilled, Anything is Possible, Infinite Possibilities, Peace, Joy, Abundance, Everyone has healthy gooooooood food to eat, clean water and beautiful land and oceans for everyone!

2) My top 5 most cherished values I would take a bullet for/What values define me  and what values are most important to me:
1-Standing in my Truth & Integrity
2-Freedom
3-Family & Relationships
4-Full Self Expression
5-Safe Space for Everyone!

3) What are the 5 things that need to happen between now and the end of this year to make this year the single best year I have ever had in my life!!!! (I had to add 4 more, making it 9!)

1-Being a Business owner/CEO of my T-Shirt/fashion company, re:spect!!! And therefore, being the CEO of my life. (Looks like: launching re:spect out in the there world through my 1st photo shoot, fashion show and creating long lasting partnerships with designers, manufacturers and distributors)
2-Going on and completing our, Mahina Movement’s 1st tour ever successfully! We recently have been asked to go to Palestine for 2 weeks, so we have added Palestine to our tour. We have set out to go to Europe, 5 countries and 8 cities: Dublin, Ireland; London, England; Paris, France; Barcelona and Madrid, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Florence and Rome, Italy. (Looks like: making a difference every where we go, being fully funded, and leaving people inspired and empowered.)
3-Completing RAICES MURALES in LA, California successfully! (Looks like: Murals Complete, Community Gardens Complete, Documentary complete, the Bell community is truly satisfied and happy!) and I work on another mural in the Fall/Winter anywhere in the world and I have one set up to work on 2013!
4-Being whole and complete with every single person in my life. (Looks like: Nurturing the relationships I chose powerfully to be in that serve me. No longer being in relationships that don’t serve me and my life’s purpose and choosing powerfully to not interact with people, places and things that do not reflect my full vision of who I am.)
5-Being 100 percent DEBT FREE! Financial Free and Independent! (This is so possible for the end of this year. Looks like: paying off all my Student Loans at NYU and Columbia)
6-Apply to my Masters Program in the double major of Business and Law! To enter in Fall 2013.
7-Have my health and well being full center. (Looks like: Go back into my boxing training and go to my capoiera classes every week . Stick to it. Get all my check-ups, find my dentist, eat healthy and drink lots of water daily.)
8-Thrive in and nurture and grow in my spiritual community! I already found my spiritual community and I am so thankful for them. Be grounded in my spirit. Love and nurture my spirit. (Looks like: Going to church weekly. Praying and meditating daily. Read, Fast, Ponder, Pray, Learn. Ask and receive God’s blessings and design everyday. )
9-Owning my full expressed sexiness and full blown creativity! They both come from the same chakra, riiiight. (Looks like: Taking dance classes, expressing my physical body in how I walk, stand, sit and dance. Dance, dance, dance. Move. Move. Move. Wear clothing that fully expresses my vision of myself everyday, that empowers me, that empowers my heart, my body, my mind, my spirit….And other actions I will take that I choose not to share with you at this time. smilez.)

….And here is one of Robin’s lists that have changed my life already, please see below. Thank you Mr. Sharma! I’m grateful for you and who you are in the world.

I wanted to share 17 of the tactics I’ve learned that I know will help you lean into your productive best in this age of dramatic distraction:

17 Tips To Double Your Productivity In 14 Days

1. Turn off all technology for 60 minutes a day and focus on doing your most important work.

2. Work in 90 minute cycles (tons of science is now confirming that this is the optimal work to rest ratio).

3. Start your day with at least 30 minutes of exercise.

4. Don’t check your email first thing in the morning.

5. Turn all your electronic notifications off.

6. Take one day a week as a complete recovery day, to refuel and regenerate (that means no email, no phone calls and zero work). You need full recovery one day a week otherwise you’ll start depleting your capabilities.

7. The data says workers are interrupted every 11 minutes. Distractions destroy productivity. Learn to protect your time and say no to interruptions.

8. Schedule every day of your week every Sunday morning. A plan relieves you of the torment of choice (said novelist Saul Bellow). It restores focus and provides energy.

9. Work in blocks of time. Creative geniuses all had 2 things in common: when they worked they were fully engaged and when they worked, they worked with this deep concentration for long periods of time. Rare in this world of entrepreneurs who can’t sit still.

10. Drink a liter of water early every morning. We wake up dehydrated. The most precious asset of an entrepreneur isn’t time – it’s energy. Water restores it.

11. Don’t answer your phone every time it rings.

12. Invest in your professional development so you bring more value to the hours you work.

13. Avoid gossip and time vampires.

14. Touch paper just once.

15. Keep a “Stop Doing List”.

16. Get up at 5 am.

17. Have meetings standing up.

Stay Productive and Make Your Work Matter!

Kindest regards,
Robin Sharma

Closed Economic System: Millionaire Communities here we come!

I had such great coaching from my financial coach, Jaime, CPA, MBA, CTT, MCT today (Watch out Suze Orman, here comes your protege! If you want her info peoples, email me directly at: indigoartista@yahoo.com) and I just absolutely love her and her coaching. She has been my financial coach for 3 months.

Today I was sharing with her about my project called, “Millionaire Communities.” Millionaire Communities is my way of creating not just 1 Millionaire (You and Me) in the world but a community of millionaires (All of us: our families, our friends, our loves ones, Everyone), i.e. specifically communities of color, artists, community organizers and builders, and activists. Here is how Millionaire Communities came about: In starting my own business, re:spect, which is my T-Shirt/fashion clothing company, a certain percentage of every T-Shirt will go back into the community to support and fund an artist’s project and non-profit organization. The community buys a T-shirt, on that T-Shirt is a design of someone  in the community(or an image that represents a cause in the community). A percentage of that money goes to someone in the community and the cycle continues. Every one wins.

I was sharing all of this with Jaime and she listened intently as always. I love the way she listens. Then she shares with me some financial terms and vocabulary which I just absolutely LOVE. I already had my notebook and pen to write all the words down. She shares with me “economic closed economy” and “economic leakage.” I will talk about economic leakage in a later post. I am thrilled learning these 2 terms. My mind starts racing with inspiration, ideas and new actions to take.
The definition found on Economypedia states that a closed economic system or just closed economy is:

A closed economy is a self-sustained economic unit with no trading or business relations with any other unit outside it. The term usually refers to a particular nation or an area with common currency and is used to denote little or no economic exposure to the outside world. Instead of importing and exporting goods, a closed economy needs to be entirely self-sustaining.

That is it. Millionaire Communities is a closed economy! We have everything we need and want in our communities. I could go on about this but I needs to go to sleep now…it’s 3:50 am in NYC and I have a big day tomorrow.

I love waking up to a new day.
More to share. More to come.

Abundance, joy and love sent your way.
Millionaire Communities in full effect.

Good Night and Good Morning….WE ARE THE ONES WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!

***Thanks to my Financial Coach, Jaime, she gave me the correct title. I updated the title from its previous title.

Social JUSTICE Entrepreneurship & Leadership

Dear World,
One step at a time….one step at a time…

For the past 2 months I have been in the preparation process of making a dream of mine a reality. re:spect, my T-Shirt/clothing lines has been in my conceptual and idea world for the past 8 years and this Saturday marks the 1st ever Photo Shoot with models rocking my T-shirts with professional photographers, a professional film maker, assistants and 15 models, ahhhhh yeahhhh, wowie. These photographs, trailer and short doc (7 – 10 min) will showcase re:spect to its fullest vision. I’m very excited that everything has come together.  Pretty soon, the world will to see how much pleasure I get in seeing people wearing something I put my full love, re:spect, and passion in. It is my art. This is the 1st time I have taken on this large endeavor for re:spect.
I sent my whole beautiful team the intention of this Saturday and I would like to share it with you:

The INTENTION of this Sat’s PHOTO SHOOT (and what re:spect) is all ABOUT:
–BE INSPIRING and BE INSPIRED!
–FULLY EXPRESS & SHARE YOUR CREATIVITY, SEXINESS & BEAUTY!!!
–HAVE FUN & CONNECT (w/COMMUNITY)!

For the whole time this Saturday, I ask you to be inside the intention. All of you are super beautiful, unique, talented, sexy, creative and have so much to offer the world. I invite you to share your best and greatest selves with each other, on camera and off camera and hopefully you can all stay connected and maybe, build with each other in the future. What you ALL are supporting is not just making this dream a reality but you are supporting communities:
A percentage of all my T-Shirts is going directly back into the community. I have a list of Artists and Organizations that a percentage is going to. So far, the 2 Artists and 1 organization are:
1-Melissa Montero Padilla for her full-length feature documentary film on amazing Puerto Rican Activist, Isable Rosado (Melissa is one of our models!)
2-Alicia Anabel Santos for her memoir written for her daughter, “Finding Your Force: A Journey to LOVE.”
3-Oct. 22nd Coalition. This is one of my family’s. Mahina Movement and I have been working with them for the past 9 years! I love this organization. http://www.october22.org/

I made up the word and identify myself as a “Social Justice Entrepreneur.” I believe that not only can we support and buy within our community but WE ARE THE ONES to actually bring support and money back in the community.

I feel soooo goooooooooooood. I feel so joyful. I am super empowered in fulfilling on my dreams.
Thank you for the 7th person to follow my blog! Thank you for the 10th LIKE of one of my posts.
I know this is just one step to the 1,000th person to follow my blog. I know this is the just one step to the 1 million LIKEs of one of posts. Got start somewhere right? I’m ready and loving this journey and I ain’t stopping. Moving along….one step at a time….

May 1st: My 1st Silk Screening workshop was last night

Dear World,
HAPPPPY MAY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is May y’all! It is May 2012!!!!!
1st I have to say that I did not complete the Poetry challenge…I just didn’t put it in my schedule AND I am working on not trying to be PERFECT. I get that trying to have the PERFECT post, trying to have the PERFECT way of doing something, trying to do it the PERFECT time, feeling the PERFECT way, all stops me. I ain’t interested in being PERFECT at all now especially since I know that is one that stops me from actually doing what I need to . I’m just gonna DO WHAT I NEED TO DO to GET WHERE I NEED TO GO. No stopping. DREAMS FULFILLED.

In the past few weeks of April, I got to spend 1 week in LA, California with my Mama y Papa, my adorable 2 year old niece, Victoria Niumeitolu and my sister, ‘Amelia and her boyfriend.; and I have been continuing coaching 5 participants in the Self Expression Leadership Program at Landmark Education since January and the end of May will be our last class; and I just finished showcasing in 2 art exhibits this past month; and I will be painting more than 8 murals (20′ x 40’ each) in LA next month; and right now I just want to share …about my 1st Silk Screening workshop last night at the Brecht Forum in New York City. It was a huge success for me because I said I was going to teach a Silk Screening workshop in NYC and I did it! Not only did I do it but I got to meet people that wanted to learn the process so bad and I got to teach them something that I am so passionate about.

Here are some of the things my students/participants said about the workshop:

“Aside from your expertise on the subject of Silk Screening last nite, your personal character greatly added to the lesson.  Your enthusiasm, knowledge and step by step approach was commendable.  The fact that we got to actually create something like stretching the mesh over the frame and stapling was rewarding.  Keep up the good work and thank you for helping to widen my artistic horizons.”

“I loved the workshop and the group and the relaxed environment. you are an inspiring teacher, because you practice what you preach and we all can tell this stuff rocks.”

“I had a blast, I learned so much. Now I actually know what silk screening is and I can’t wait to do it myself.”

Thank you guys!

I got to experience myself never giving up in this process of having the idea and then making it a reality. I really was unstoppable in the whole journey: taking each step one at a time.  From inviting people to the workshop to putting the “value” of what I am teaching and asking a price for it. I was super nervous right before I taught the workshop and I was going through my own anxiety of “no one is going to show up.” I gave that up by powerfully declaring with my team that we were creating something spectacular. Build it. And they will come. Which brings me to my announcement of my 2nd Silk Screening Workshop in NYC! And my very 1st Social Justice Entrepreneurship Workshop! See more details below.

Last night, I really got to be present for my love for teaching. I love teaching. I love teaching what I love, what I am passionate about. Shout outs to Javier Salamanca and Gabriella “Gab*Star” Callender for documenting last night’s class. The 1st photo by Gabby and the others are by Javier.

Shout outs to: Sally Hypollite for being a fantastic assistant  in creating a space of possibility and creation. Kazembe and the Brecht Forum for having me be at home. Thank you to all the participants for your awesome energy! Alright, GAME ON, let’s get our silk screening on…

I will be leading my 2nd SILK SCREENING WORKSHOP 101 (Basics, get the fundamentals) on 2 evenings, Tues. May 22, 2012 (Part 1) and Fri. May 25, 2012 (Part 2); 7 pm – 9:30 pm in New York City!! LOCATION: TBA

Registration Fee: $255.00 (Scholarships available!)

–Register today! We are building a community. I believe that everything you need and want is within y/our community. Everyone will have the opportunity to not only gain the skills of Silk Screening but they will also be able to meet and build with people…and who knows, maybe even create a team or even collective of “silk screen educators/ artists/ activists”…the possibilities are endless

Your registration also includes:

***workbook and curriculum

***resource & materials guide

***follow up coaching sessions

***WORKBOOK & CURRICULUM: I honor art making and its history AND I know any art form can be used as a tool for social justice and empowerment, we aint making Art just for Art Sake’s Silly. We are more than just a pretty face, right. I created this workbook and curriculum just for you and your students to know where silk screening comes from, how it’s been used over time, who has done it and how it has and can make a huge impact on the world. Also, I strongly believe in “Paying it Forward” and that is one of the reasons I am an Educator and Teacher–I want to teach you what I got, so you can teach another what you got. I strongly encourage Teachers and Educators to register for this workshop, so they may teach their students. You do not have to be a Teacher and/or Educator in a School System or Institution, you can be a person that can teach this to folks (young and old, tall and short, get it?) in your neighborhood, community center, church, mosque or synagogue; and the list goes on and on. I have created a workbook for you (and your students) and curriculum, that you can use to “Pay it Forward.”

***RESOURCE & MATERIALS GUIDE:

When I started to learn how to do Silk Screening on my own, I did not see any one Resource and/or Materials guide online or elsewhere. I had to ask many people for advice; I went to many places for materials and figured out where to get the best; I practically figured out and learned on my own. With my experience and practice, I compiled a list of resources, stores and found materials (meaning free!) you can use to make your journey easier! (The list of stores and organizations are only in NYC.)

***FOLLOW UP COACHING:

Silk Screening (like many things you are just learning) takes practice and experience. Ok, so you finished my workshop, you got all the knowledge, NOW its up to you to take that knowledge into power and do it. This can be a little daunting when you are ON YOUR OWN and wanting to do it the right way. Don’t worry, you won’t be on your own just yet…you can call me. Included in your fee, are 3 follow up coaching calls with me. You can use this anytime while you are “practicing.” Maybe your image did not burn through, what is the problem? Call me and we can figure out together what you can fix. These follow up coaching calls are AWESOME. I want to make sure that you can do silk screening on your own!

—————————————————————————–

I will be leading my 1st SOCIAL JUSTICE ENTREPRENEURSHIP WORKSHOP  on Tues. May 29, 2012; 7 pm – 9:30 pm in New York City!! LOCATION: TBA

Registration Fee: $50.00

–Register today!!! Are you an Artist/Activist/Community Builder/Organizer and you want to make money from what you love? Have you been told that you can NOT make it as an artist and you can NOT make money from doing something that you are passionate about? Are you interested in SUSTAINABILITY and ABUNDANCE and living a life that you LOVE for yourself, your family and friends and your community?

I came up with the title Social Justice Entrepreneur because I felt like, just Entrepreneur or Social Entrepreneur did not fit who I am as an Artist, Activist, Community Builder and Organizer, and the CEO of my own Business. Growing up, I was NOT taught or given examples, that I, too, can be the owner of my own business and that my business can be my art. Going to Art School, I did not take any classes on how to be an Artist that can “make a living from her art. ” I had to figure it out myself and I want to teach you what I learned. If I can do it, you mos def can and will. Just in the past year, I have learned how to make ART my BUSINESS and to have it all: doing my creative work, while making money, while serving the community. Dreams Fulfilled. Now.

Your registration also includes:

***hands on experience and doing group activities to have you experience yourself as the owner of your own company

***Amazing tips and resources to use to start your own business and be confident!

***resource guide

***Leave this workshop with a Plan of Action! Leave this workshop with confidence and inspiration in making your dreams a reality!

Leave this workshop knowing you have a whole community out here to support your success!

You are invited to my 1st SILK SCREENING WORKSHOP in NYC!

Since I started silk screening like nobody’s business, I have gotten countless requests to teach a Silk Screening workshop, well, here it is folkz, moana love style…

I will be leading a SILK SCREENING WORKSHOP 101 (Basics, get the fundamentals) on Mon. April 30, 2012; 7 pm – 9:30 pm in New York City!!

Registration Fee: $255.00 (5 scholarships available!)
Deadline to Register: Mon. April 23, 2012; midnight

–Maximum capacity: 40 PARTICIPANTS ONLY. Why 40 participants? We are building a community. I believe that everything you need and want is within y/our community. Everyone will have the opportunity to not only gain the skills of Silk Screening but they will also be able to meet and build with people…and who knows, maybe even create a team or even collective of “silk screen educators/ artists/ activists”…the possibilities are endless.

–Refreshments will be served. (There just has to be some food, punto. period.)

Your registration also includes:
***workbook and curriculum
***resource & materials guide
***follow up coaching sessions

***WORKBOOK & CURRICULUM:
I honor art making and its history AND I know any art form can be used as a tool for social justice and empowerment, we aint making Art just for Art Sake’s Silly.

Millionaire Joy

You don’t have to tell me twice. You don’t have to pay me. You don’t have to remind me or set your alarm or watch. You don’t have to use force. You don’t have to flatter me or compliment me. No need for manipulation or cohersion. You don’t have to like it or even love it. I’m gonna keep on keeping on. This can never go bankrupt. Checks will never be bounced from this “account.” I don’t got to hide this “stash.”  I don’t fear someone will rob me or steal this—for they have their own and I will show you, if you wish.  I get pure joy from doing my ART. That’s right, for the JOY of it. Doing my ART (poetry, painting, acting, photography, graphic design, y mas) is not work but JOY. No one has to tell me to do it or pay me (UNIVERSE, thank you for giving me the blessings of people & community purchasing my ART, axe. YAY! I can make a living from what I LOVE and what gives me and others JOY!) This joy is forever ever. This joy is worth more than millions—its infinite  and the source is everlasting. Yep, Unstoppable Abundance, right heeee-aaa.
I am doing exactly what I said I was going to do with my life and that’s what keeps me going.
This is what I call a millionaire’s life—JOY. ABUNDANCE. LOVE. Can’t buy that. Not for sale. Purely generated organically straight from my heart.

What’s your Joy? What is something you can do every day for the rest of your life that gives you pure satisfaction?  What makes you feel like you are walking on PURE GOLD?

I love my family! Check it out, I’m taking you back, where my sister, Fui, was the Tongan Madonna, for reals…
